Jessica tried hard not to follow in her musical parents' footsteps, considering fashion design, stock broking and owning a sweet shop in her childhood. But it all proved too much to resist and the experience she gained hanging around her dad's studio and singing with her mother has finally been put to use.
Part of her work at Space involves running Mary Hopkin Music, which is the only way she can get Mary, her mother, to record anything - on the proviso that it happens at Space only. Mary and Jess love to layer up the vocals together and can produce tear-jerking choirs in a matter of minutes.
Her father, record producer Tony Visconti, taught the young Jess how to do his legendary "flying edits", flicking chalk at the tape while it was rolling, and also let her record a keyboard part for the Moody Blues while he nipped out for lunch.
When she grew up and went to Cardiff University, Jess sought out more musical opportunities and met Chris (Space Production Director) and Jim (Space Company Secretary), helping them run the Live Music Society and working with new bands. More recently they play together in Flick of the Wrist.
Music continued alongside other jobs as well as a Masters degree in Social Science Research which led to a series of jobs in health and housing policy. Caring passionately that the people who used such services should have a say in how they are run, Jess takes this ethos into Space Studios and does her utmost to provide the best for Space clients. Developing people's confidence through performance and music is one of the best rewards and Jess loves to see bands and individuals develop during their visits to Space.
Jessica is Managing Director of Space. She tends to work with vocalists, particularly ones who are new to the studio. She is the house composer and if you bring your team in for some team building, it will be Jess who facilitates the session. She is a vocalist and plays keyboards and guitar. If she had more spare time she'd be in the garden growing runner beans.
